Dr Becky Coles works in the field of education, literacy and the arts and specialises in ethnographic, interview-based and archival research. Her longest running piece of work was conducted while at the University of Nottingham, and in partnership with the Tate, and followed the lives of a cohort of young artists over a five year period, exploring the dynamic relationship between structural inequality, identity and aspiration. She has worked on the international Youthsites project documenting the history of the non-formal arts learning sector and with Nottingham Trent University to uncover a local history of industrial arts education. As well as working on the Pandemic Parenting project, she is currently working with the Centre for Literacy and Social Justice to research relationships between reading and wellbeing. Becky is an Honorary Fellow at Deakin University and a Research Associate at the Open University.
