Chris previously worked as a teacher of French in secondary schools. His research interests include gamification, educational technology, and the datafication of education.

As a Research Fellow at the Centre, Chris critically investigates the political economy of EdTech, using a database as design intervention. He is also involved in a project investigating how digital play can facilitate engagement for primary school-aged students.

Chris is hoping to improve children and families’ critical literacy skills, for instance, in how they manage data privacy, but he also wants to educate families on the business models of tech companies and how this influences specific design choices.

Earliest digital memory

As a young child I played PacMan on my dad’s ‘black-and-white’ PC’s in the attic. I was promised a lolly if I managed to finish the game. I don’t think I ever succeeded.
