As a PhD student, I am investigating digital culture among Bangladeshi diasporic children in Australia. I will conduct study on their everyday digital media practices, mainstream cultural assimilation, digital media negotiation and link with home country context, and parenting in online spaces.

I’ve begun research for a PhD on the effects of digital media on diasporic children living in Australia in their home and community contexts, with a focus on cultural assimilation, negotiation, and continuity with mainstream Australians and their home country surroundings. I am also one of the co-authors of a children’s digital media literacy book produced by the Government of Bangladesh’s Ministry of Information and Broadcasting.

First digital memory

My father bought me a laptop for my sixteenth birthday by borrowing money from his coworkers. My desire to study media and communication was sparked when I started writing for newspapers using that laptop.
