Professor Steven Howard is a member of the ARC College of Experts and a current ARC Future Fellow in Education. His research focus concerns early childhood development and the real-world implications of these changing abilities, with a particular focus on self-regulation and related abilities. This includes creating accessible means for those who routinely work with young children to positively influence children’s development.

Within the ARC Centre of Excellence for the Digital Child, as a Chief Investigator with the Educated and Healthy Child programs, Steven aims to understand the interactions between young children’s interests and abilities (e.g., self-regulation), adults’ practices (e.g., the quality of interactions during digital play), and the digital choices, experiences, and developments that ensue. Through these insights, Steven aims to provide timely, accurate and pragmatic knowledge to children and their carers to help guide their decisions in new and evolving spaces.
