Patterns of digital technology use by children while in the care of family versus primary and formal or paid care
About the project
Australia’s work and family policies make raising children a private concern rather than a collective responsibility.
An in-depth analysis of the Household Income and Labour Dynamics in Australia (HILDA) data has shown that grandparents are an integral part of family care provision with one in three families relying on grandparents for childcare. Therefore, it is important we understand how children use digital technology while being cared for by older family members.
This project will investigate the ACODA data for how children are using digital technology in different care settings with a particular focus on technology use while in grandparents’ care.
